Raised by a single mother alongside five siblings in Fort Lauderdale, Tim learned early that success required hustle. While other kids played sports, he sold newspapers from age ten and parked cars at the Mai Kai restaurant through high school.
"I changed my name in third grade from John to Tim," he recalls. "That was the first thing I remember doing to sort of recreate who I was." That early act of self-determination foreshadowed a life of bold reinvention.
"My mother raised six children without a father. I never had that throw the ball in the backyard type of experience."

After college, Tim opened a small steak and seafood restaurant with his partners. But success was not immediate. The breakthrough came from an unconventional idea: what if customers could choose their own steaks and watch them being cooked?
